Most weekend trips out of Delhi and the plains head to the same handful of hill stations — crowded malls, long queues for viewpoints, traffic jams on the way up and the way back. Kaladhungi is a different kind of escape. It's a working village, not a resort town, and that's exactly what makes it worth the drive.
What sets it apart is the setting: Kaladhungi sits right at one of the main gateways to Corbett Tiger Reserve, with the River Boar running alongside it and the Kumaon foothills rising just behind. You get the quiet of a small town along with genuine access to one of India's oldest and most storied national parks.
A simple two-day plan works well here. Arrive Friday evening and settle in, whether that's a homestay in the village or a resort closer to the forest edge. Saturday morning is for an early jeep safari — the best sightings happen in the first couple of hours after the gates open. Spend the afternoon at the Jim Corbett Museum or walking along the river, and close the day with a proper Kumaoni thali.
Because it sits close to Corbett, Kaladhungi gets busy in peak season — roughly November through June — so it's worth booking your stay and safari permit a few weeks ahead rather than showing up and hoping for space.
None of this requires a long holiday. It's genuinely a weekend trip, and one that trades screen time and traffic for birdsong and forest air.
